The ‘Evolution’ of a Pet Portrait

I had no idea how to title this post.  I thought about “The Process of A Doggie Portrait” or  “The Progress of a Doggie Portrait”.  I finally settled on “The ‘Evolution’ Of A Pet Portrait”.   No matter which way I worded it,  it sounded all overblown and like I was trying to make it a big deal.

But recently,  I was asked to do a portrait of a dog for someone for Christmas.  And I thought I would take pictures along the way.  I forgot to take a snapshot the last time I did a dog picture.

This portrait was created using chalk pastels and was done on brown paper even though some of these pictures don’t reflect that.

His name is “Patches”.

And this is the complete version.   I tried to get a picture each time I worked on it.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

I haven’t posted in a long time.  Its like I haven’t had too much to say plus I’ve been busy with Christmas.

But I have been thinking about one of my new old favorite Christmas songs.    It’s John Lennon’s “So This Is Christmas”.  For so many years,  I.COULD.NOT.STAND.THAT.SONG.   But a few years ago,  I was watching a Christmas special on TV and some lady sang it and I could finally understand all the words.

I found the words to be beautiful.  Maybe I don’t have the meaning just right but when he sings “another year ovah, a new one just begun”, I used to feel sad but not anymore.

Wait a second… I just googled the lyrics and the subtitle is “The War Is Over”.   OK,  so the song isn’t about all I thought it was.  But the lyrics are still beautiful.   Maybe when he wrote it,  it was about war, but when I hear it I think about the hope of a new year.  And maybe we should examine the year that just past,  but we should look forward to the new year with a renewed sense of hope.

“A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear”

Uh Oh…. My husband was right!

Last night,   as I was getting ready for bed,   my husband pointed out that my last post was depressing.   I didn’t think so when I wrote it but when re-read it this morning…. I think he was right!

I had listed 7 things to look forward to during the season.   Out of those seven,   four of those things had a negative statement attached.  Wow.  I think I was trying to have some sort of funny attitude.

Sometimes I will be negative here,   hopefully not all the time.

Sometimes I get caught up in all the stuff that needs to be done during Christmas.   Walking and fatigue are issues,  so sometimes I’m tired and don’t get things done like I used to.    While this is frustrating, I’m trying to rethink my approach to the tasks of Christmas.

Watching Christmas movies.

Sausage biscuits on Christmas morning.

Christmas ornaments on the tree.

Those are few more things about Christmas that I like.   No negative comments attached!

I can’t believe it’s December already…

I suspect that everyone knows that Christmas comes at the same time every year.   I know this.   And every year the Christmas season never fails to surprise me.   I look up and BOOM!  its the HOLIDAY SEASON!  AGAIN!

And it also never fails that December barely begins and I’m already behind with my shopping.  My mom and sister are among those that get out there and get it done.  I’m the one that can’t seem to get it together and then slips into panic shopping.   Then I wind up spending too much.

But this year is going to be different!!  Oh yes indeed, its gonna be different!

Stuff to look forward to during this most joyous of seasons.

The movie:  “ELF”   …. this is my all time favorite holiday movie.   Because smiling is my favorite.

Getting the tree up.    I WILL NEED HELP THIS YEAR!   If no help, then no tree.   I’m not making that up.

Looking at lights on other peoples houses.    I love looking riding around looking at houses all lit up for the holidays.

Christmas parties/ get togethers.    I’m not much of a get-together kind of person but hey, I’ll give it a try.

I like Christmas music in small doses.  Not a fan of the 24/7 Christmas music format that some radio stations adopt.

Christmas tree lots.   At night,  with the lights hanging above the trees and the families picking out the trees.

There’s more…  I’m sure of that and when I think of them I’ll share…  I’ll also try to post some artwork.
